“One of the things you can do as a confident woman [man] is apply the blood of Jesus Christ by faith to your household. I do this regularly. I apply it to my own life: my mind, emotions, will, body, conscience, spirit, finances, relationships, my walk with God… by praying and releasing my faith that there is indeed power in the blood of Jesus to cleanse and protect.”— Joyce Meyer
Now you shall keep it [the lamb] until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.
Exodus 12:6-7
When the Passover was instituted in Egypt, God gave specific instructions regarding the application of the lamb’s blood. After each household had selected a lamb, observed it for four days, and slaughtered it at twilight on the fourteenth day, the next step was vital:
The blood was first collected in a basin. But until it was applied, it served no protective purpose. The head of each household was instructed to take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the basin, and strike it on the lintel and the doorposts. That visible application was their guarantee of protection that death would pass over their homes.
The hyssop was a common plant in the Middle East, growing abundantly on hillsides and rocky walls. It was ordinary, inexpensive, and readily available. God didn’t require something rare or elaborate, just something accessible. And so it is with us. The means of applying the Blood of Jesus is simple and accessible: faith.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). But it must not remain silent or internal. It must be spoken. Scripture teaches that believing and confessing go hand in hand (Romans 10:10). The hyssop by which we apply the blood is our faith-filled confession, the declaration of what Christ’s blood has accomplished in our lives.
There is tremendous power in the shed blood of Jesus. But like the blood in the basin, its benefits remain inactive until applied. The Blood must be applied to the doorposts of our hearts, our minds, our homes, our bodies, and all areas of our lives. Only then does it become effective in repelling the destroyer.
Victory over Satan, the accuser of the brethren, comes not just through the Blood , but also through the word of our testimony.
That “testimony” is more than general praise; it is our personal confession of what the blood has done for us. When we declare that we have been cleansed, forgiven, redeemed, protected, and justified by the blood of Jesus, Satan’s accusations lose their grip.
The tongue, though small, is a mighty weapon in the life of a believer. It is the vehicle through which we release the power of the blood into our lives. Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). In Ephesians 6:17, we are reminded that God’s is the Sword of the Spirit. It is alive and active, but it must be spoken and wielded.
Confession is not a one-time thing. It is the daily declaration of God’s truth over our lives. It is how we align our words with God’s Word and enforce the reality of our redemption. Victory over Satan doesn’t come merely by knowing the Word. It comes by hearing it, meditating on it, confessing it, and living it, until its reality manifests in our lives.
Notice the final instruction in Exodus 12:22: “None of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning.” The blood provided protection, but only for those who remained under its covering. Anyone who stepped outside forfeited the security the blood offered.
Likewise, the power of the blood of Jesus is effective in our lives as we remain in Him, through obedience, in faith, and in ongoing fellowship with God. Abiding in Christ keeps us under the covering of His blood.
The blood of Jesus has already been shed. The provision is complete. But its power must be personally and continually applied through:
Confession of what the blood has accomplished
Remaining under God’s covering through obedience
The blood in the basin can save no one. But when it is applied by faith and our confession, the destroyer must pass over. May we live daily under the power of the blood, declaring its victory over our lives.
