May your dreams be larger than mountains and may you have the courage to scale their summits.— Harley King
At first glance, Caleb’s bold declaration—claiming his long-awaited mountain—might seem like arrogance or pride. But upon reflection, it’s an inspiring example of unwavering faith and patience. Caleb waited over 40 years to claim what God had promised him. His mountain, occupied by the sons of Anak—the very giants the 10 spies feared—was finally conquered by Caleb at the remarkable age of 85 (Joshua 15).
Have you identified your own mountain, the one divinely promised to you? More importantly, have you begun to plan how to take ownership of it?
These questions take on greater significance when we consider the unique paths we each walk. Our life journeys place us in distinct phases and within different "mountains of influence." In exploring the concept of the 7 mountains of influence , we recognize that God calls each of us to specific roles—whether in family, business, government, technology, education, or other domains.
So, what does your mountain look like? Where are you called to serve? In today’s world, exciting opportunities are emerging, particularly in areas like technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Are you a courageous Caleb, ready to step into these new spheres, or do you find yourself among the hesitant 10 spies, fearing the unknown?
Caleb’s story is a testament to faith and courage. While those without faith perished in the wilderness, Caleb held fast to God’s promise. His faith allowed him to inherit what others could not. It’s a reminder that not everyone is called to the same mountain. Some are called to the family mountain, building nurturing environments where sound teaching and doctrines shape future generations. Others may be drawn to the mountain of education, seeking to reform systems that are in need of wisdom and truth.
Like Caleb, claiming your mountain often requires a fight. The giants you face may not be physical, but obstacles such as doubt, fear, or systemic challenges can stand in your way. Yet God’s promise remains:
“Ask of Me, and I will give you the heathen for your inheritance”
(Psalm 2:8).
Caleb’s success was rooted in his deep connection to the Word of God, which guided his actions and emboldened him to silence doubters.
To conquer your mountain, you need a different spirit—a mindset shaped by unwavering faith, courage, boldness, and a heart deeply rooted in God’s Word. Caleb’s “different spirit” and steadfast faith, acknowledged by God in Numbers 14:24, set him apart.
With the rise of AI and other technological advances, some of us may be called to the mountain of technology. Just as the industrial revolution reshaped society, AI is poised to transform how we live and work. Can you begin seeking God’s guidance to claim influence in this sphere? Where is your mountain, and will you earnestly ask the Lord to grant it to you?
