Whenever God means to make a man great, he always breaks him in pieces first.— Charles H. Spurgeon
God’s words to Peter, “I will make you,”
may seem simple—perhaps even understated—especially when spoken to a seasoned fisherman. Yet, these words carry profound significance: they are a promise of transformation. Imagine yourself in Peter's place, hearing Jesus say, “I WILL MAKE YOU.”
At first glance, it might seem like clever wordplay. However, Jesus was pointing Peter toward a destiny far greater than catching fish—he would become a fisher of men.
Whatever your role—husband, father, brother, teacher, or leader—consider this: God has entrusted you with a purpose. He alone has the power to shape you into the person He envisions, provided you yield to His will. While diligence and hard work are vital, the emphasis is on aligning yourself with God's plan and allowing Him to guide your transformation.
Jesus's call to Peter was clear: “Come after Me, follow Me, and I will make you.”
This is often where we stumble. Too often, we rely on our own wisdom, methods, and need for control. But to become the person God has called us to be, we must first be willing to follow Him.
The Lord’s promise in Psalm 32:8-9 (NLT) reinforces this truth:
"I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control."
Peter, too, struggled with his own ways and methods. Yet, his journey shows us that daily surrender to the Lord leads to the fulfillment of His plans. Even Peter’s moment of betrayal served as a humbling reminder of his humanity and need for grace. Still, Jesus’s unwavering belief in him enabled Peter to rise again. This is the heart of discipleship: allowing someone greater to mold you into the best version of yourself.
What dreams and visions reside in your heart? Do you believe Jesus has the power to bring them to fruition? There will be moments of doubt and uncertainty. The question is, can you yield to Him? If God placed those aspirations within you, He knows how to bring them to life—if you choose to follow Him.
Often, we catch glimpses of the grand vision God has for us, but obstacles, fear, and past failures can hold us back. Yet, Jesus’s invitation remains the same:
"Come, follow Me, and I will make you."
